Gio Bernard second season boom or bust?

Among the few rookies last season that I was willing to draft, Giovani Bernard was on the top of my list. Unfortunately, I was not able to draft him because he went too early.

This year, however, I know that there is no shot that I will draft him, coupling with the fact that it’s his second year and the loss of Jay Gruden as offensive coordinator could turn out to be a disastrous campaign.

Like C.J. Spiller last year, Bernard has the same potential to utterly destroy your fantasy draft.

One obvious plus for Bernard is, that Benjarvus Green-Ellis is another year older, and after his drop in production last season, it is most likely Gio’s position to lose.

The main issue with Spiller last season was Fred Jackson. Jackson wasn’t ready to relinquish the role and the coaching staff wasn’t ready to force the issue. The combination of the two, hurt Spiller last year, this year could be different.

The question is: will the same happen in Cincinnati this year? Another strike against Bernard, is that he will have to learn a new offensive coordinator in just his second season. Rumblings that point towards the Bengals moving towards a more run-minded offense also worries me with Bernard, as he is not at three-down back right now.

Bernard’s real strength comes in the passing game. So, if the Bengals go pass heavy, Bernard will be a two-down back and see more time on the field.

I know that people are going to jump all over me about this, but I have him as undraftable before the 4th round.

Where would you Draft him?
