Hello friends. As I often do in early April, I spent last Sunday afternoon with my couch and the back nine of The Masters. Amidst all the non-drama of Bubba Watson getting fitted for his second green jacket, there was Rickie Fowler, dressed to the nines in full Puma attire. His ai???West Coast swag,ai??? as one of my friends put it, included his signature orange, both in the fashion of plaid pants and a stiff-brimmed hat. The pants I loved. The hat I loathed. It was approximately four sizes too big. Fowler had his ears tucked inside the edges, making him look like my two-year-old niece when she decides to be cute and model something belonging to her dad. Heai??i??s lucky Augusta experienced immaculate weather. A slight breeze couldai??i??ve blown that helmet all over Pink Dogwood. Youai??i??re a millionaire. Get clothes that fit.

It was this rant that made me realize everyday I probably become a little bit more like my father. Iai??i??m getting older, crustier, and sooner or later I will allow my kid to have a bunch of friends come to the house just so I can use all of them to move railroad ties from the driveway to the back corner of the property.

Normally, I would happily tell you to pass me that cantankerous torch and get off my lawn, but my inability to look progressively at young talent last season cost me in more than one league. One canai??i??t be too quick to dismiss the unknown. Despite what my dadai??i??s labor practices and late round rookie salaries say, the benefit of youth extends far beyond practicality. Young guys are hungry, and every season emerging fantasy stars prove it. Last season I stuck with Darren Sproles, who I thought was a known quantity, instead of seeing the potential value in guys like Zac Stacy and Joique Bell, somewhat unknown and undervalued quantities who have been in the league but now happened to be surrounded by suddenly favorable fantasy circumstances. In order to avoid my shortsightedness becoming a tradition like any other, I vow to have a list of younger talent potentially on the cusp of breaking out. Hereai??i??s my first draft:

Zach Ertz- In one fewer game last season, he had more catches and targets than Brent Celek. DeSean Jackson and Jason Avant heading out the door leaves 120 catches that need to be accounted for on an offense that tries to run more plays than anyone else in the league. I bet the former Pac 10 coach gives the former Pac 10 tight end more responsibility.

EJ Manuel- He didnai??i??t play that poorly for a rookie on a bad team with an underachieving running back and putrid offensive line that ranked in the bottom fourth of the league in pass protection. Sounds dire, right? Manuel went 4-6 for a 6-10 team, beating Carolina and losing to New England on a last second Gostkowski boot. Robert Woods averaged a shade under 15 yards a catch. Buffalo signed Chris Williams, who started all 16 games last year at tackle for St. Louis and traded for Tampaai??i??s Mike Williams, who spent most of last year injured but tallied three consecutive 60-catch seasons before that, so it looks like the organization is committed to giving Manuel more to work with.

Andre Ellington- Wouldai??i??ve been on the list last year. All anyone had to do was see the immortal Rashard Mendenhall ahead of Ellington on the depth chart and it was a fact that the rookie from Clemson would get a crack with the first team. Free agent Jonathan Dwyerai??i??s physicality will only compliment Ellingtonai??i??s speed. Plus, defenses will be forced to respect the duo of Fitz and Michael Floyd, regardless of whether the guy chucking it is Carson Palmer or Robert Palmer.

Kenjon Barner- Admittedly, this is the longest shot on the list, but Barner falls right in line with the criteria. Jonathan Stewart simply cannot stay on the field. DeAngelo Williams just eclipsed the magic age for running backs. Oh, and heai??i??s DeAngelo Williams. He started last year rushing for 86, 85, and 120 yards and I still couldnai??i??t trade him for a ham sandwich. Iai??i??m not (just) knocking Williams. Barner is the youngest, healthiest, and most explosive back on a team that lacks any semblance of a legit offensive weapon.
