AFC South Draft Grades: Indianapolis Colts

Donte Moncrief

Donte Moncrief

Indianapolis Colts
Analysis:
Not owning a first-rounder due to last season’s trade for running back Trent Richardson, the Colts had to wait until late in the second round before selecting. With that pick, Indy wisely chose to improve its offensive front with Ohio State tackle Jack Mewhort at No. 59. The Colts then grabbed some more depth at receiver by selecting Donte Moncrief at No. 90. Moncrief is big (6-2½, 221 pounds), and could push for a spot early on as a No. 3 or 4 receiver. Defensive end, Jonathan Newsome (5th round), and linebacker, Andrew Jackson (6th round) add depth. Newsome could come in as a situational rusher. Jackson is a big, physical run defender. With their final pick, the Colts added tackle Ulrick John to provide depth along the offensive front. I would’ve liked to see the Colts add more help to the defensive backfield, but it is difficult with only five selections.
