Draft Profile Series: Bishop Sankey

As we approach the deepest NFL Draft in recent memory, I’ll give my breakdown and analysis of 75 top prospects in this year’s class. At the conclusion of this series, I will include my final overall and positional rankings, as well as my mock draft.

Bishop Sankey, RB, 5-9½, 210, Washington
Key stats: Finished with 2,174 total yards and 21 total touchdowns in 2013.
Strengths: Quick and elusive runner with pretty good power. … Is short, but has very good build. … Runs with very good pad level, especially in traffic. … Has great change of direction and elusiveness. … Displays strong lower body, and is a good runner in the open field. … Is a natural pass catcher and true dual-threat back.
Weaknesses: Sometimes prematurely bounces runs outside. … Played in spread and read-option attack, which allowed him some space, as defenses usually didn’t have stacked boxes to stop him. … When hit straight on, isn’t usually able to drive stronger tacklers for extra yardage. … Takes some big hits as he rarely shies away from contact. … This could lead to durability issues.
Conclusion: Sankey is a highly-productive and true dual-threat back, who has the ability to be a three-down player in the NFL. … As most teams use multiple backs, Sankey will likely find his way onto the field as a rotational back, that makes his early impact on third down.
NFL comparison: Giovani Bernard.
Draft projection: Second round.
