Draft Profile Series: Jeremy Hill

As we approach the deepest NFL Draft in recent memory, I’ll give my breakdown and analysis of 75 top prospects in this year’s class. At the conclusion of this series, I will include my final overall and positional rankings, as well as my mock draft.

Jeremy Hill, RB, 6-1, 233, LSU
Key stats:
Rushed for 1,401 yards (6.9 ypc), and 16 TDs in 2013.
Strengths: Hill is quick for a big man and has very good body lean and vision. … Is quick through the hole and very shifty for his size. … Usually selects the correct seam to maximize yardage. … Runs with good pad level, and is able to drive for extra yardage. Excels when going north/south. … Is a natural pass catcher and can do major damage in space after the catch. …
Weaknesses: Not terrible but needs to improve his pass blocking. … While he runs with good pad level, he sometimes doesn’t get low enough when blocking I pass protection. … Wasn’t used oftem on outside runs a lot in college. … At times doesn’t wait for the play to develop and loses patience. … His biggest concern should be his two arrests that could drop him considerably from where he should be drafted on his talent alone.
Conclusion: Hill is on par with Ohio State’s Carlos Hyde as the best big backs in the draft. He has the potential to be a No. 1 back, but his troubled past off the field will likely drop him a bit come the draft. Hyde can become a three-down back and should definitely work his way into the rotation relatively early in his career.
NFL comparison: Eddie Lacy.
Draft projection: 3-4 round.
