Draft Profile Series: Allen Robinson

As we approach the deepest NFL Draft in recent memory, I’ll give my breakdown and analysis of 75 top prospects in this year’s class. At the conclusion of this series, I will include my final overall and positional rankings, as well as a mock draft.

Allen Robinson, WR, 6-3, 220, Penn State
Key stats: Had 97 receptions for 1,432 yards and 6 touchdowns in 2013.
Strengths:
Big and strong. Has good short-area quickness. … Was used on outside and in slot. … Is a very good open-field runner. … Has elusiveness and vision after the catch. … Physical runner and does well fighting with defenders for position. … Is reliable catching the ball. … Tracks passes well and hands and fights for the ball. … Willing blocker.
Weaknesses:
Has average straight-line speed and struggles to create separation at times. … Needs to sharpen and sell routes. … Rounds out his breaks. … Needs work getting off jams at line. … Doesn’t use his hands well and allows corners to stymie his release. … Could use his big body and strength more to his advantage. … Inconsistent with his pass-catching technique.
Conclusion:
Robinson is a big receiver that plays more like a smaller wide out. … That’s both good and bad. … On one hand he has the run-after-catch ability of a much smaller receiver. … But, he doesn’t use his 6-3, 220-pound frame enough to dominate physically. … If he can get a bit stronger and become a more polished route runner, he should become a solid No. 2 receiver in the NFL. … Overall, I think Robinson is an underrated prospect, who would be a steal if he lasts until the third round.
NFL comparison:
Anquan Boldin/Jarrett Boykin.
Draft projection:
Second or third round.
