Draft Profile Series: Cody Latimer

As we approach the deepest NFL Draft in recent memory, I’ll give my breakdown and analysis of 75 top prospects in this year’s class. At the conclusion of this series, I will include my final overall and positional rankings, as well as my mock draft.

Cody Latimer, WR, 6-2½, 215, Indiana
Key stats:
Caught 72 passes for 1,096 yards (15.2 avg.) and 9 touchdowns.
Strengths:
Looks the part, with great size-speed ratio. … There isn’t much he can’t do on the field. … He can run, catch and really get off the ground to win 50-50 balls. … Catches the ball very well, and heads upfield after the catch instead of wasting time dancing around. … Is elusive after the catch, and is physical … Has quick burst off the line and is smooth transitioning out of breaks. … Is also a willing blocker. A former basketball player that can go up and get it while taking on contact.
Weaknesses: Played in wide-open offense and played in several shootouts that helped boost his production. … While he catches nearly everything, Latimer lets ball get to his body on occasion. … Coming off foot surgery and has missed some games due to injury. … Is a bit raw and inexperienced.
Conclusion:
If he continues to develop, and is drafted into a good fit, Latimer has the natural talent to become a Pro Bowl player. He does nearly everything well and has the physical attributes to be a stud receiver. He is not as pro ready as some of the receivers in the draft, but might make us forget that in a few seasons. May be worth a shot late in the first round as his potential will likely be very enticing for receiver-needy teams.
NFL comparison:
Miles Austin/Kenny Britt.
Draft projection:
Should be selected between picks 25-50.
