Football Memo

With the 29th Pick of the 2014 NFL Draft, the Patriots Select: Dominique Easley

Dominique Easley DE/DT 6’1 288 lbs – Florida

Key Stats – 5 Tackles in 3 Starts in 2013. Injured most of 2013 (ACL)

Strengths –  Dominique Easley can fill gaps and fly to the football. He is a disruptive force up front and can line up in a variety of shades. Easley is athletic and quick. As a Florida Gator, Easley did not play many games as a senior, but he was effective in the three games he started. Easley is the type of defensive lineman that can demand a double team. Easley has an excellent work ethic and is a very aware playmaker.

Weaknesses – Easley is perhaps undersized to play a defensive end or defensive line position in the NFL. He has the speed to play outside linebacker but remains a question mark recovering from an ACL Tear.

Dominique Easley is a shocking pick of the NFL Draft.

Dominique Easley is a shocking pick of the NFL Draft.

Why It Works: The Patriots have a predilection for Florida defensive players. See Brandon Spikes and Jarvis Green. Easley has the right set of tools and attitude to flourish under the tutelage of Bill Belichick. New England has the uncanny ability to unearth diamonds in the rough.

Draft Grade: B  – If it were anyone else, it would be a C-. However, the Patriots know how to draft and develop better than anyone.
