Draft Profile Series: C.J. Fiedorowicz

As we approach the deepest NFL Draft in recent memory, I’ll give my breakdown and analysis of 75 top prospects in this year’s class. At the conclusion of this series, I will include my final overall and positional rankings, as well as a mock draft.

C.J. Fiedorowicz, TE, 6-5½, 265, Iowa
Key stats: Had 75 catches for 732 yards and 7 touchdowns over past two seasons.
Strengths: Good route runner. … Excels at short and intermediate routes. … Does good job of getting on top of defenders then breaking to create separation. … Has strong and reliable hands. … Very good blocker. … Is more of an in-line tight end. … Can move defensive ends off the ball. … Turns and shields defenders from the play. … Also does good job getting to second level to stalk block linebackers. … Technically sound in everything he does.
Weaknesses: Not elite physically. … A bit of a plodder. … Not a real threat to run routes down the deep middle of the field. Struggles to gain any separation when running down seams, or any straight-line routes. … Average after the catch and won’t make many defenders miss.
Conclusion: I really like Fiedorowicz, and believe he is the best dual-threat tight end in this class. … I think he’s being underrated due to not having elite athleticism. … He does everything pretty well and wins with intelligence, technique and effort. … While he may never be a player that makes defensive coordinators lose sleep, he will be a solid NFL player that does the little things to help his team be successful.
NFL comparison: Heath Miller/John Carlson.
Draft projection: Could go anywhere from Rounds 2-4.
